At UYC, we believe therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Our clinicians have pursued training in a diverse range of evidence-based modalities to better support your healing journey. Please note that while our therapists are trained in these frameworks, every treatment plan is uniquely tailored to the individual client. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best approach for your specific goals, often integrating tools from multiple modalities rather than relying on just one.
What is the IFS Framework?
Developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, Internal Family Systems views the mind as a natural collection of different "parts"—each carrying unique perspectives, reactions, and protective roles—guided by a core sense of Self.
Rather than viewing uncomfortable thoughts, inner criticism, or emotional reactions as things to fix or eliminate, the IFS model views them as protective responses. By learning to explore these parts without judgment, individuals can foster a calmer, more balanced relationship with themselves.
How It Is Used in Therapy
An IFS-informed approach means incorporating the concepts and language of parts work alongside other established clinical frameworks.
Therapy is always individualized. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best approach or blend of interventions for your specific needs. An IFS-informed framework can be helpful for:
Exploring internal conflicts and indecision.
Developing greater self-compassion and reducing self-criticism.
Gaining insight into automatic reactions or coping patterns.
Connecting with a grounded perspective during times of stress.✔ understand the emotions beneath conflict
✔ stop blame cycles and negative interaction patterns
✔ share vulnerability safely
✔ rebuild emotional connection and trust
Couples leave therapy feeling more understood, more intimate, and more capable of navigating life’s challenges as a team.
Our Team & Approach
Integrative Practice: We draw from IFS as a conceptual framework alongside other therapeutic approaches rather than offering certified, single-modality protocols.
Clinician Alignment: Select therapists on our team have a clinical interest in parts-work frameworks and draw from IFS-informed principles to support their work with clients.
Client Matching: Because therapist backgrounds, learning interests, and clinical approaches vary across our practice, we encourage you to view our team profiles or connect with our intake team to find a practitioner whose approach aligns with your goals.
