At UYC, we believe therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Our clinicians have pursued training in a diverse range of evidence-based modalities to better support your healing journey. Please note that while our therapists are trained in these frameworks, every treatment plan is uniquely tailored to the individual client. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine the best approach for your specific goals, often integrating tools from multiple modalities rather than relying on just one.
What is the CPT Framework?
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a specialized cognitive framework originally developed to support individuals navigating post-traumatic stress and trauma-related distress.
The approach focuses on identifying "stuck points"—unhelpful or inaccurate thoughts that develop following a distressing experience (such as "I am never safe" or "It was my fault"). Rather than avoiding these memories or thoughts, a CPT framework provides structured tools to examine the evidence for these beliefs, helping individuals develop more balanced, realistic perspectives about what happened.
How Is It Used In Therapy?
A CPT-informed approach means drawing from cognitive processing strategies flexibly alongside other established clinical frameworks (such as somatic, emotional, or attachment-informed approaches).
Therapy is always individualized, collaborative, and carefully paced to respect your safety and comfort. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best approach or blend of interventions for your specific needs. Incorporating CPT-informed tools can be helpful for:
Identifying and evaluating unhelpful beliefs related to past traumatic events.
Working through feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame.
Restoring a sense of safety, trust, control, and self-worth.
Developing healthier cognitive patterns around relationships and the future.
Our Team & Approach
Integrative Practice: We draw from CPT strategies as conceptual tools within a broader therapeutic approach rather than offering certified, single-modality protocols.
Clinician Alignment: Select therapists on our team have a clinical interest in cognitive trauma frameworks and draw from CPT-informed principles to support their work with clients.
Client Matching: Because therapist backgrounds, learning interests, and clinical approaches vary across our practice, we encourage you to view our team profiles or connect with our intake team to find a practitioner whose approach aligns with your goals.
